Wedding Stories homework week 3

I asked some friends of ours if they would help me with this homework, and thankfully they said OK,
so we went down to the beach down the road...

First while the sun was still up I tried some shots with sidelighting

then moved to some open shade for for diffused light (and played with my lensbaby)

then sunset

twilight

And that all I managed that day, but a friend of mine asked if I would take some photos of her new baby last week... so I have included a window light image from that day

and I managed to try some ofthe other lighting senarios with my children over a few days

backlight, with my slightly grubby, hot and bothered 3 year old daughter Arwen.

full sun , which I kinda went all silhouette with

low light indoors

complete dark, with a candle (and a very inquisitive 3 year old)

I think I found backlighting tricky, particularly with were to shoot from and getting the camera to focus . Any tricks with that.
I really struggled with full sun ,which is why I reverted to silhouette, but in a wedding , I'm figuring that is not really an option, the harsh shadows were unpleasant, and I didn't know how to counteract them, or work with the light. .. I will maybe re-read your lesson with that one.
Side lighting was also hard to manage, I was trying this when the sun was on it's way to setting, but still very strong and I had to adust my exposure a lot to stop from getting blown out highlights.
A lot of things to work on... and this is not such a good thing with a first wedding to shoot in only a few days.
